Install on Qidi X-Plus 3

Finally got started on the install on my Qidi X-Plus 3. Done so far: switch install, remote OLED display, mount for the 3DC.

I used 2 other files off printables to make a mount that used the spool holder for the Qidi dry box:

Autoclippy
Custom base for Qidi extruder (will superglue to Autoclippy once fit is fully confirmed
Printed a box to hold 2 buck converters that has access to view voltages and adjust if needed. 1 is for the Autoclippy, the other for the failover sensors

Hi Danny,

That's looking great so far - hope the debugging and load/unload definitions is going smoothly.

Your thread is actually perfect timing - I'm about to embark on exactly the same setup (S4 dryer -> 3DC -> Autoclippy -> Xplus3 extruder). Are you planning on posting your gcode or STLs anywhere? It'd be a great help in speeding up my install (and those of others too)!.

I just spent a frustrating 2 days fighting jams. Friction and obstacles won for now.... though I did get 1 successful color change :) so there is hope.

Loading the 3DC is proving to be difficult even after I cleaned up the entry points after the rollers. I need to do more it seems.

I am considering abandoning the autoclippy and designing a simple mechanical one. The cutter is just too far from the extruder so will waste a lot of material. Thinking about trying the tip shaping for the short term.

I just picked up a chameleon for my x-plus 3. where did you mount the switch? I'm probably going to go the route of tip shaping though for mine.

It mounts in the back left... note on the back where the wires goes into the slot where the PTFE tube enters... the switch is just on the other side. (Note: Mine is an X Max 3... but I think the mounting of the switch is identical.)

I had it on the motor at the back left, but it keeps moving a bit - enough it missed sometimes. The motor gets very hot and the tape actually softens a lot. Poor planning on my part. . I printed a mount and moving it to the left side next to the bed. I'll send a picture once I get it sorted.

Have a look at the other thread about difficulty loading filament. A small mod with a file fixes that. Save a lot of frustration by doing that now :)

Also happy to share my gcode if you like. I'm using Orca slicer. Once working of course... I'm to the point of tuning distances for load/unload.

Untested but i modified Bills part from xmax and added a top clip and holes on the bottom to use m3 screws as set screws to hold it in place. seams really solid so far. But again it's untested. I still need to mount everything else. It's on printables if you want to take a look.

The rest of the mechanical. Added a Y splitter to have a manual bypass and make use of the Qidi dry box. Using Sunly 4 reel dry box as the source for my 4 colors.
