im very excited, i've been waiting for the mk4 pro drop before ordering so i don't have to wait for 2 shipments. love the concept, can't wait to give it a shot
According to things Bill has said in the videos I've seen, buying now gets you the Mk4 "base model" with the Mk3 firmware. Once the Mk4 firmware is released, most likely some time in May, you will just need to connect the main board to your PC and download the firmware to it. So as far as that goes, the only reason to wait is to avoid the minimal hassle of updating the firmware. (keep in mind that the new firmware can do fancy things like detect where the double Y is and where the extruder is, meaning you would have less programming such as length of the tubes/distance of retraction, and there was some mention of better Klipper functionality).
As for the "Pro model", that doesn't actually exist. The "Mk4 Pro" is a series of add-ons to the base Mk4, and they will not be selling them. Instead, they will have a STL file to download, and a BOM (Bill of Materials) detailing what extra board/motor/etc to buy, as well as instructions on how to install it. You will print the STL yourself, and buy the extra hardware yourself, and assemble it yourself. So again, there's no reason to wait to buy the 3D Chameleon because you'll have to do this all yourself anyway.
Ironically, the most expensive "expansion" part seems to be the I2C board, which is required if you're going to have more than 1 expansion part because it will allow all the other expansion parts to be plugged into it, and even that's only going to cost around $10-$15. Getting literally everything, despite each individual piece being optional, would still cost less than $40 extra (and that's supposedly including all the bits and pieces to create a "dry box" you probably don't really need that can hold 4 filaments, with buffers built in to "catch" the extra filament that gets rewound out of the machine during a normal switch since the spools don't rewind themselves), plus potentially the filament to print the parts but if you have enough filament to need the 3D Chameleon you probably already have enough filament to print the parts/mounts.
I have bought the mk3 about a month ago. I had considered on waiting for the new announcement but I KNOW I read a post that said no hardware change only firmware upgrade is the difference.Looking at this YT video at about 18 min bill is showing new HARDWARE. He said open source in the video but I feel like Bill needs to manage his site betterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIlZjtqgR0w&t=18s
It says in the video and on this site that all the accessories are open source and available to buy on your own. And when the MK4 updated firmware is available for download the information on where to purchase and use them will be given then.
The front page is updated to order the Mk4, and the FAQ says:The Mk4 comes in two versions... the Mk4 and the Mk4 Pro. The Mk4 Pro is not actually a product we sell, but an ecosystem of add-ons that are freely available open source designs that extend the functionality of the Mk4. In addition to some cool new features (like "Select Random Filament" and "High Speed Mode"), the Mk4 firmware brings with it new capabilities to extend the capability of the base system. For example, our initial add-on designs include an OLED display, 3DClippy Automatic Filament Cutter, 4 Filament Runout Failover Sensors, Extruder Motor Position Sensor to enable Automatic Calibration, and a Filament Dry Box with built in Filament Buffer. The Mk4 firmware will be open and extensible with future upgrades as well.
Might be worth waiting a week (though I honestly have no idea how quick it is updated. I don't even see on the website where you'd download it, but I'm sure we'll get instructions. From what I understand, with the MK3 you need to put the exact length of your bowden tubes and such down to the mm, where as the Mk4 it does all that automagically for you. either way, I ordered my Mk4 today, so you're a step ahead of me, let me know how the upgrade process goes if/when you do it if you don't mind.
I don't recall ever saying that... I purchased the mk3 that had the mk4 hardware since all orders since October had that I believe, it was the firmware I was waiting on. No cutter, I'm afraid!
EDIT: Oh snap I did say that! Sorry, that was a mistake. I think I meant to say WITHOUT the cutter.
Ok. I bet it will take a little time. Most of the streamers that were there need to travel back home, edit their videos, and then uploads them. Its not just this, I have not seem a lot of content yet at all. Just a few things. So give them a day or 2 to get their crap together.

Yup, want to know if I want the Mk4 or Base, but ready to order....
Same. I wanted to go to RMRRF, but couldn't swing it.
Same....
